The
EOTC Liturgy
Sacred liturgy is the very heart of Ethiopian
Orthodox worship. All the various kinds and types of Orthodox
prayer and ritual cluster around the Sacrifice of the Mass which
was instituted by the Lord the same night in which He was betrayed
(1 Cor.11: 23-25).

THE
FIRST out-door EPIPHANY SUCCESSFULY
CELEBRATED IN LONDON!
Thousands of people turned up and
participated in the unique Ethiopian style worship and societal
activities. The usual wet and windy London winter weather has
shone away on the day to give way for cold but dry and at times
sunny condition. Not bad for the time of year. It ought to be
down to our Lord’s assistant upon our father’s prayer
to make the condition ideal for us in foreign country, as he pledged
to his disciples.

Celebrate
Epiphany the Ethiopian way!
The day has started around 12:00 when the Holy Tabot
arrived, accompanied with St Mary of Debretsion London, Clergies,
Sunday school choir and members of the church.
The Tabot was greeted by many Ethiopians at the
area, chanting church songs and the usual Timketi- Legan Medihanit,
(meaning: The baptism of Christ Jesus is to purify those of us
who belief in it) and so on, while the locals wondering watching
amazed and taking pictures.
This followed by the usual pre-anaphora, and Morning
Prayer.
After the reading of the holy-Gospel and the chanting of the Saint
Yared’s praise: (Aman BeAman, Menkir Sibihate Timketu; meaning:
It is and astonishing that the Lord Christ come to this word and
baptised to save the human race, as he promised.)
Straight after that, the water was blessed from all four directions
and trickled out onto the crowd by the priests, while the singing
of the hymn continued by the clergies and the church’s choir.
After one and half hour lunch break and social event;
the holy Tabot proceeded out from its resting tent for more spiritual
chanting and unique St Yared’s tap-movement.
This time round the spiritual and cultural singing of mothers
and senior church members seems to be taking the upper hand and
draw the crowd to it, comparing it to the clergies and the choir.
What a wonderful competition, it was just like being back-home
in Ethiopia for a while. The occasion brought back all the magnificent
memories of Timket celebration, back home, after so many years
to most of us.
Finally, around 17:00 GMT, the holy Tabot, accompanied with St
Mary of Debretsion London, Clergies, Sunday school choir, church
members as well as the local community, paraded out back to church,
St Mary of Debretsion London.
It was a blissful, unique, successful and unforgettable
day for all of us luck enough to be there and take part in the
procession epiphany (Beale Timket).
Praise is to the Lord, Amen!!!
Wosibehat LeEgziabihair!!
Hulun Laderege LeEgziabihair Misganna Yihun, Amen!!
